Recovery

For the past 2 1/2 weeks I've been told that I'm not able supposed to lift anything over 10 pounds because of the surgery on my hernia:

"A femoral hernia may be small enough that only the peritoneum, or the lining of the abdominal cavity, pushes through the muscle wall. .... Femoral hernia surgery is typically performed using general anesthesia and can be done on an inpatient or outpatient basis. The surgery is performed by a general surgeon or a colon-rectal specialist.
Once anesthesia is given, surgery begins with an incision on either side of the hernia. A laparoscope is inserted into one incision, and the other incision is used for additional surgical instruments. The surgeon then isolates the portion of the abdominal lining that is pushing through the muscle. This tissue is called the “hernia sac.” The surgeon returns the hernia sac to its proper position inside the body, then begins to repair the muscle defect.
If the defect in the muscle is small, it may be sutured closed. The sutures will remain in place permanently, preventing the hernia from returning. For large defects, the surgeon may feel that suturing is not adequate. In this case, a mesh graft will be used to cover the hole. The mesh is permanent and prevents the hernia from returning, even though the defect remains open.

Once the mesh is in place or the muscle has been sewn, the laparoscope is removed and the incision can be closed. The incision can be closed in one of several ways. It can be closed with sutures that are removed at a follow-up visit with the surgeon, a special form of glue that is used to hold the incision closed without sutures, or small sticky bandages called steri-strips.

Recovering From Femoral Hernia Surgery

Most hernia patients are able to return to their normal activity within two to four weeks. The area will be tender, especially for the first week. During this time, the incision should be protected during activity that increases abdominal pressure by applying firm but gentle pressure on the incision line.

Activities that indicate the incision should be protected include:

•Moving from a lying position to a seated position, or from a seated position to standing
•Sneezing
•Coughing

As a mother of 4 young and active children it's been VERY challenging to say the least!  I have put a lot of time into updating the blog though which makes me happy

I've also been reading  a series that I've been wanting to finish for quite some time now.  I read up to the very beginning of the 5th book almost three years ago.  Well, I picked up the third book reread it and then the fourth and reread it too.  Now I'm 200 pages into the fifth book and I'm loving it!  It's the Work and the Glory series.  It's about the beginning of the restoration of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints and their journey and trials.  It's wonderful!

I'm still almost caught up with the blog and have been trying to do some fun yet unstrenious activities with the young ones.

Mother's Day & Father's Day

Mother's Day was a great celebration for us all....
(Avery was avoiding the camera this morning for some reason)
The kids had made some Mother's Day gifts for me at school.  I read each one and loved them!  This was from Avery!
Lovin' on my oldest angel girl...
This was from Jake.  His was hilarious!!  I love his face in this picture.
what a handsome boy...
Happy Mother's Day.  I love my James Avery rings; each symbolizing my children...
I had some wonderful helpers making one of our family favorites:  Breakfast Tacos
cute little man scrubbing a potato

Father's Day was done by the children.  I unfortunately was not a huge help in getting much to celebrate this Wonderful Day and the great blessing of having such an amazing Father to my children.
Avery made him a picture frame choosing pictures of each of us...
I did trace each of the kids hands and frame it for him.  I wrote on the top:  The greatest gift I have came from God, I call him Dad.
Little man wanting his picture taken as he leans across the table saying, "Cheese!"
Jake wrote Dad a letter too.  He's quite the little artist and drew him pictures too.  Again I love his face
I think this picture is one of my favorites.  It's ADORABLE!  I have everyone smiling and looking at the camera.  Yea!
another good picture of the loves of my life.

A Big Day for Emily

May 10th was a wonderfully BIG and EXCITING day for us at the Allred house!  Two big events took place that day...
PRE-K GRADUATION & 5th BIRTHDAY
I love Emily's face in this picture.  The excitement of GRADUATION!
I was able to get a picture of Brittany (one of the HS students assigned to Emily- who also is a good friend of the family) with my oldest two kids who also went to this pre-k.
Emily is the second one in the line of graduates walking right behind the Texas flag...
...lining up onstage....
Cougars group picture....
(again the shoulder to the ear pose she loves to give for pictures)
My oldest duo with the newest Pre-K graduate.
Another picture of our graduate, this time with Aunt Angie.

This is what I was trying to do for Emily's 5th birthday.  She's my pinkalicious girl and wanted a pink room so I made her sleep elsewhere for 1 night and took two days to paint and decorate.  It was a supposed to be a surprise.
I did three walls light pink and a bright pink accent wall...
This is the final result.  The hot pinks don't all match exactly but that's alright.  I also plan on getting pink drawer pulls.
Emily helped me make her birthday cake.  She requested a cake with pink frosting and butterflies.  I let the birthday girl lick the frosting from the beater.
the Birthday girl opening her presents....
She LOVED being sung to and was so happy
blowing out 5 birthday candles...
I think the Birthday Girl LOVES her new PINK room.
Happy Birthday my sweet Emily!

Overdue vacation..(cont)

With this post being so long I'll keep comments short and sweet.  Our day at Sea World was great and the kids had such a blast.

This was HUGE!! I went through it with Josh & I have no idea how these kids can just run through it.  The whole time I kept thinking this things gonna come down.  I said at least a dozen prayers up there!

Spencer accompanied the kids on a roller coaster just their size...

We went to the sea lion show with Seymour and Uncle ?? (I can't remember the walrus' name)

Jake still remembers this roller coaster he went on twice.  First with Dad then with me (I have NO idea WHY I got on that thing!  Made my head hurt!)
(This is a picture from one of the shows we watched.)
This is one of my favorite rides!  Jake didn't like it much at all!  (I will admit that it was a bit scary going all alone on this- I went with the girls solo too.  It's nice to have someone to hold on to either in front or behind.)
When you go to Sea World it's a must to see the killer whale show.  The kids LOVED it!!  Jake still draws killer whales from the fun time he had here!

There was a new addition to the whale family.  I can't remember how old the little orka was but it performed right along it's mother.  Very cute.  Lots of Ooohhhs and Aaahhhhs from us all!

I am VERY proud of this picture I took!  I love it and what perfect timing.  It's nose just touching the Believe ball.  So awesome!
(We must reward a job well done with a mouthful of fish!)
Another water ride for the kids.....
Pink Flamingos (just for Emily- my pinkalicious girl!)
Oh....to feed the dolphins.....

touching the fish was always the part I couldn't stand!

The last show we saw before going home was the Beluga whale and dolphin show.

On the drive home we visited a park so the kids could run free......
I tried so hard to get this right.  Everyone put your backs together and touch your shoulders.  Now look up at me.  You can see how well it worked....I got half of them but I wasn't quite directly over them...Oh well.
My little handsome men....
